Read Kathy’s Story

When Kathy Cabana began wearing an oral appliance while sleeping, the volume of her snoring  lessened noticeably, much to the delight of her husband.

“My husband thinks my oral appliance for snoring is nothing short of a miracle,” Kathy said. “From the very first night, he said he has only heard gentle sounds from my breathing.”

Obstructive sleep apnea is caused by the lower jaw sliding back while you sleep, which in turn blocks free flowing air and causes snoring. Dr. Tom Corwin was able to fit Kathy with an oral appliance, similar to a set of orthodontic retainers, as an alternative to machines or surgery.

“It’s surprisingly easy and comfortable to wear,” Kathy explained. “I’m sleeping well, and am not even aware of it during the night. I’ve had no problems with jaw pain or any adverse effects.”

Kathy said that she felt comfortable trying the appliance as Dr. Corwin and his staff gave her opportunities to ask questions, and provided thorough explanations, including how to correctly insert and remove the appliance.

“They are extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly,” she added. “When the appliance came in from the lab, Dr. Corwin even took extra care to be sure that it was totally comfortable for me. I feel very fortunate.”
