Meet Our Dentists

Scott Burke, DMD, FAGD
“I treat people as if they are members of my family. After finding out their dental health goals, I empower them with good information from which to make good choices. Rather than lead, I’d rather they lead me.” (Scott Burke)

Scott Burke has wanted to be a dentist since the sixth grade. He believes that dentistry is “a beautiful marriage between art and science – a challenge to the mind and the hands.”  He enjoys how mouths that function well are also aesthetically pleasing.

Scott Burke has wanted to be a dentist since the sixth grade. He believes that dentistry is “a beautiful marriage between art and science – a challenge to the mind and the hands.”  He enjoys how mouths that function well are also aesthetically pleasing.

With more than three decades of experience at our dental practice, Scott has developed a style of relational dentistry that helps him connect to his patients personally. This approach allows him to communicate with patients regarding their dental health, potential problems, and treatment options.

Once a patient has explained his or her health goals, Scott focuses on accomplishing them in a way that is best for the individual, while addressing priorities.

“I discuss each treatment option with my patients so they understand what I recommend and why,” he explains. “Then we move forward with the best treatment plan to achieve the patient’s goals.”

Scott earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Maine and his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Tufts University. He completed a residency program at the University of Vermont. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry.

Scott enjoys actively participating in his church, cycling, and scuba diving.

Thomas W. Corwin, DDS, FAGD, D.ABDSM
“Our practice is not just about teeth – it’s about putting patients’ needs above our own. It’s amazing to me how many people have never been offered the time to sit and talk with their dentist. Talking with people outside the dentist chair helps us get a much better sense of what they need.” (Tom Corwin)
Read Dr. Corwin's Profile

Tom Corwin has worked in private practice since 1983, first in Texas, and then joining us in 1993. He thinks it’s important to visit with patients and get to know them on a personal level, so they know he will be attentive to their needs – and all the details. “Everyone is different as far as their goals, needs and values, and those change at different stages of our lives,” Tom says. “Working on building strong relationships with our patients every day is central to doing the best job we can.”

A Texas transplant, Dr. Corwin earned his undergraduate degree in Biology at Texas A&M University and subsequently received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry (now renamed Texas A&M College of Dentistry) in 1983.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD). He is a member of The American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the American Dental Association, the Maine Dental Association, and The Greater Portland Dental Society.

Dr. Corwin is a Consultant Examiner for the Commission on Dental Competency Assessment (formerly the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners). He gives back to the community through Donated Dental Services, a humanitarian service to the disabled, elderly, and medically compromised.

Dr. Corwin is an educator in his field and speaks to hospital, physician, dentist and dental school groups about how oral appliances can help people with sleep apnea.

He is the only dentist in Maine to be both board-certified by the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and accredited by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

Leigh Philbrick, DMD, MAGD
“Our entire staff views patients as people. We’re all trying to help people achieve their best health by offering them excellent care, in keeping with their lifestyle. We take the time to listen and be thorough.” (Leigh Philbrick)
Read Dr. Philbrick's Profile
Leigh Philbrick has been a part of our team for more than 30 years. He feels it is important to practice the kind of dentistry that people want, and to give them reasonable options, including the pros and cons of various options, without judgment.

“Our expertise is knowing what can happen long-term,” Leigh explains. “We counsel people on what to expect and provide information to help them make decisions that are best for them.”

He says this style of dentistry is good for the doctor as well as the patient, as it allows the dentist to do solid work that will last a long time and provides the patient opportunities to express their hopes and needs.

Leigh completed his undergraduate degree at Bowdoin College and received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a general practice residency.

Recently, he was certified in the use of Diode Lasers which can be used for soft tissue and gum procedures and has completed his Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Leigh regularly participates in the Dental Lifeline Network, a humanitarian service to the disabled, elderly, and medically compromised.
